Marilyn L. Lammers

Marilyn Lea Lammers, the daughter of Glen and Phyllis Walker, was born April 9, 1930 at Newton, Ia.  She grew up in Newton, Ia, where she received her education, graduating with the NHS class of 1948.  After graduating from high school, Marilyn attended AIB College graduating in 1950.

Marilyn married Marvin Lammers in 1952 and supported his military career while stationed in Germany and several states in the U.S. before settling in Newton. 

Marvin and Marilyn were parents to four children, William “Bill”, Mark, Anne, and Jeanne.

The family was members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, and Marilyn sang with the Harmonettes.

Marilyn was widowed in 1972 when Marvin died, and she spent the remainder of her life caring for and supporting her children.

Marilyn passed from this life on January 23, 2017, at the age of 86.  Her gentle spirit, kind heart and quick wit will certainly be missed by her family and those who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Phyllis Walker, her husband Captain Marvin E Lammers in 1972,  her son William “Bill” Lammers, and her brother Bob Walker.

Those left to honor Marilyn’s memory are her children Mark Lammers, Anne Weissinger and Jeanne Lammers Payne; her grandchildren Stephanie Coy, Ivy Lammers, James Koopman, Andrew and Thomas Payne; her great grandchildren Stella Jean Coy and EmmaLee Efferson; sister Sanra Probasco, brother-in-law Joe Probasco; several beloved nieces and nephews, and many good neighbors and friends. 

Father William Reynolds presided ovear a burial service for Marilyn on Thursday March 9, at Newton Union Cemetery, Veterans section 1, plot 239. 

A Celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be followed by a luncheon.
