Allen "Mike" Michael PostonMay 10, 1959 ~ February 21, 2015 (age 55)
Allen Michael "Mike" Poston, 55, of Newton passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
The son of Richard Poston and Peggy Seigworth, Mike was born May 10, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1977. Following graduation, at the age of 17, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served two tours with the Marines where he completed training at Camp Pendleton in California and was stationed in Hawaii and Okinawa, Japan, attaining the rank of corporal before leaving the military after six years.
Mike then settled in Woodland, California, where he met Kathy Carnes. They were united in marriage on May 13, 1989, and their first daughter, Sandra, was born on Aug. 28, 1989. Mike then returned to Newton with his family in 1990, and his second daughter, Kimberly, was born March 13, 1996.
Mike spent the remainder of his life in Newton, working for Midwest Manufacturing Co. in Kellogg, Gralnek-Dunitz Co. in Newton and O'Reilly Auto Parts in Newton.
Mike was extremely proud of his family's military service history, having traced it to his fifth great-grandfather, Elias Poston, who served in the Revolutionary War. Mike also was passionate about collecting lapel pins, acquiring thousands during his lifetime, and he enjoyed visiting with family and friends and volunteering for Thunder Nites in Newton. Above all, Mike was proud of his daughters and loved sharing in their successes.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Richard Poston; his step-mother, Naomi Poston; and his brother, Dennis Fields.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sandra and Kimberly; his step-mother, Gail Poston; his mother Peggy Seigworth; his siblings, Rick (Denise) Poston of Des Moines, Teresa Byers of Denver, Colorado, Pam (Gary) Diffee of Hot Springs, Arkansas., Mark Ross of Hot Springs, Arkansas, John (Lee) Metz of Omaha, Nebraska, Tom (Colby) Metz of Newton and Jim, Loren and Bob Fields; his former wife, Kathy Risigner; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
A celebration of life service for Mike will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. He will be buried at Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.
